Now, let’s get started. You may have heard the expression “hair is a woman’s glory”. Well, it is. The first thing you notice upon meeting someone is their hair. With a little care, your hair can become one of your greatest assets.
Wash – First and foremost, keep your hair clean. Shampooing your hair everyday was once recommended, but not anymore. Experts say every other day is sufficient unless you’re prone to extremely oily hair. Harsh shampoos and over-washing can strip the hair of its natural, protective oils. Use about a tablespoon of shampoo for medium length hair, (less for short, more for long) suds, rinse and suds again.
Condition – Keep your hair in good condition by using a preparation made specifically for your hair type, oily, dry, or normal. Once a month you should opt for a deep conditioning such as hot oil or cholesterol treatment. You can find the products for a very reasonable price at your pharmacy.
Brushing and combing – Regular brushing of your hair distributes the natural oils, but you may want to use a comb when it’s wet. A brush tends to stretch wet hair causing breakage. Work the comb or brush through the ends of the hair and work your way to the scalp. Starting at the top only works one tangle down into another, which makes a bigger tangle and causes damage.
Keep your hair clean – Please, at least once a week clean your brushes and combs. Brushes and combs hold oils and dandruff that can make your freshly cleaned hair dirty. Remove the hair from your brushes and combs and soak for ten minutes in a one part water/one part white vinegar solution. Rinse them well and allow them to air dry.
Protect you hair – Protect from sun damage by wearing a hat, a visor or scarf when doing outside activities. Your hair, like you skin can dry out and discolour, leaving it looking dull and lifeless. Protect you hair from chemicals in swimming pools. Wear bathing caps and use clarifying shampoos designed to strip chlorine from the hair. Again, you’ll want to use a good conditioner afterwards. Every six weeks or so, trim the ends of your long hair or shape up your short cut. Split ends can contribute to a dull, frizzy look and can even stunt your hair’s growth.
Follow these tips and after six weeks your hair will become shinier, healthier and more manageable. And keep following us to learn how to build a basic beauty foundation and get tips on how to maintain a beautiful, healthy appearance.
